“Choose your future. Choose life… But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin’ else. ”
– Irvine Welsh , Trainspotting
The come back of Trainspotting 2 after 20 years of this mind blowing British classic film
, takes us in reminisce of The 90s rotten charming youth locus of cramming brutal realism with illusionary and riotous humour. The soundtracks were undoubtedly the best in British Music History.

The Trainspotting soundtracks consists of 2 albums with the first one released on July 9, 1996, and the second soundtrack on October 21, 1997, which included songs from the film that didn’t make the cut for the first album, as well as songs that didn’t appear in the final film, but were used as inspiration by the filmmakers.

The soundtracks were of great cultural significance, takes you down to the road where everything meets, sex, heroin , club culture, and the growing pains of uncertain Generation Xers as . It curated the brightest selection of the best contemporary music from the ’70s to the 90s with heroes like Iggy Pop, Bowie, Lou Reed, Brian Eno; Then the 80’sNew Order and Blondie ; The Brit Pop’s Blur, Elastica, Sleeper, and Pulp; club acts like Underworld, Primal Scream and more.
For those who seen the film in 1996 in their teens , the classic scenes would have been solvent in their blood like heroin and changed their lives forever. As the lusty funky drums kick in with the opening track “Lust for Life” by Iggy Pop with Renton’s choose life statement voiceover embarks the film in a perfect vibrant seamless manner. Then there comes the dirtiest toilet in Scotland where Renton literally dived into the toilet and right into the sea with the romantic ambient track” Deep Blue Sea ” by Brian Eno. Renton’ overdosed scene with the most ironic song title ‘ Perfect Day’ by Lou Reed, merges beautifully with the visuals and the dynamics as Renton sinks into the burgundy carpet like sinking into the grave. The vibrant and breath taking sex scene with Renton and the sex goddess Diane would have been unreal even in every youngsters wildest wet dream.
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking good soundtrack, so you could choose not to choose life.
